“I want to come back down and do your portrait.” “Really?” “Yes, I want to pitch an article to GQ or at the least, Inc. Magazine.” “Ok” That was Wesley Mann, a world famous photographer. Wesley had done portraits of Presidents of the US, famous athletes, the most famous celebrities, and yes, even a few…

How I Look For Opportunity, And What I Do When I Find It

Posted on September 9, 2015December 10, 2023 by Paul

I was sitting at the bar at Ford’s Garage in the Cape minding my own business when another guy came in and sat a few seats down around the corner. I had just ordered something to eat. When the food arrived I took one bite and was done. There wasn’t anything wrong with it, I…

Don’t Trap Schoolkids In Their Bus On The Way Home (Part 1)

Posted on September 8, 2015December 10, 2023 by Paul

I tried to turn an 800 acre piece of dirt into a marketing company. It mostly succeeded until it ultimately failed. Here are the thoughts behind the process – and why I felt like it needed to be done. Our story starts with me having $8 and a half a potato (if you’ve not read…

Why Side Gigs Are The Best Kind Of Gigs

Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee just might be the best show of all time. I love that show. It’s actually how this site began. Paul King’s Pocket Lint was supposed to be me doing the almost exact same thing he does on that show, only local. With local celebrities. People of interest to…

I Built The Largest Private Online Marketing Company In SWFL, Why Haven’t You Heard Of Me?

Posted on September 7, 2015December 10, 2023 by Paul

“You kill it all the time buddy.” That’s what a fiend of mine said to me when I told him the local southwest Florida company I was working for was approaching 150,000 online fans. We were on my radio show, Redneck Radio, on 100,000 watt powerhouse KROCK. I had over 15,000 fans for my show….

Are You Giving Your Ideas Away For Free? Maybe You Should

Posted on September 6, 2015December 10, 2023 by Paul

I went to a job interview. Well, in any other profession it would be a job interview. They’d want to get to know you. What you’ve done. Your accomplishments. Big wins for other businesses. But when you’re in marketing, sometimes they just want to pick your brain. Get your ideas. It took me a long…

When Main Street Messes Up Your Wall Street Plans

Posted on September 5, 2015December 10, 2023 by Paul

I once made a guy tens of thousands of dollars on the stock market. I had a system. It worked. Twice. I never got a dime from him in commission or anything. Don’t even recall the guy buying me lunch. That’s just how it goes sometimes. They walk away with thousands, you walk away with…

About

Open Doors and Opportunity – it’s what we wake up each day hoping to find.

We need Open Doors and Opportunity in order to move forward, become healthier, and live better lives.

Spiritual, emotional, physical, and financial improvements can only come from finding and using Open Doors and Opportunity to your advantage … (more)

Welcome to Open Doors and Opportunity!

My name is Paul and I’m the owner of this blog.

The picture of me above was taken by a very famous photographer who has also photographed Presidents of the United States, numerous celebrity actors and various sports professionals, as well as other business professionals like myself.

I was supposed to have a feature article written about what a great marketing professional I was in GQ Magazine, or Fortune Magazine, or Forbes, or Playboy … one of those … but then, things went sideways.

Really sideways.

The article was never written, the photo was never used anywhere, I was fired from the job that made that photo possible, I lost my home and ended up traveling all over in my pick-up truck (known as Unit #4)  and staying in various Wal-Mart parking lots (what I like to call the Wal-Mart Condo Association) for 2 years.

In the meantime, I’ve done everything. I’ve been a partner in the largest nightclub in SWFL, written songs with Grammy Winners in the Songwriter Hall of Fame, started as a public relations grunt and worked my way to Chief Marketing Officer of a restaurant group, and much, much, much more and many things.

It’s been a crazy life – with highs and lows not experienced by anyone who ever “played it safe” — but I was born to live, and so, that’s what’s I’ve done. These are just some of those (all true 100%) stories.
