My Greatest Fear – And How It Helps Me Find Opportunity

Posted on June 4, 2016May 26, 2025 by Paul

Being homeless was not my greatest fear. Others fear being homeless, but I was raised in a home where every week we practically faced the prospect of being homeless. You go broke slowly and then all at once. Not our home. We were just always broke as a family and so there was never an ‘all…

Saying ‘No’ To a Marriage Proposal Was One Of The Best Moments Of My Life

Posted on June 1, 2016May 26, 2025 by Paul

I was pretty much all set to leave the next day when she got down on one knee at the foot of the bed and asked me to marry her and stay. Uh. Uhhhhhh. Like a deer in headlights. I barely understood the words coming out of her mouth. “You want toooooo …. um, what?”…

Jesus Didn’t Have A High School Diploma (Good Thing The Methodist Didn’t Know!)

Posted on May 23, 2016May 26, 2025 by Paul

My dad was the pastor of a Methodist church for three years. Three glorious years  where he loved what he did and the people loved him. That church was completely unified behind him and everyone loved everyone else and did things together all the time. It was one huge family. For three years. It was…

Jesus’ Last Name Is Not Please (What To Do When You’re Running On Empty)

Posted on May 21, 2016May 26, 2025 by Paul

Note to self: Jesus’ last name is not Please. It’s Christ. Note to Jesus: Please (oh, there I go again …) It seems I am constantly and forever saying out of need and necessity, “Jesus please”. So much so He might think it’s His last name. But He didn’t come here and give His life…

Oh No! Quicksand!

Posted on May 15, 2016May 26, 2025 by Paul

I just saw an internet meme. Facebook strikes again. “When I was a kid I thought that Quicksand was going to be a much bigger problem than it is.” Too funny. When you’re a kid it seems like you’re always going to land in quicksand. When you grow up, you worry about it all the…

Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!

“It’s cheap, but that’s pretty good stuff.” There she was with a chain wrapped around her wrist so tight she couldn’t get it off. I didn’t know how she had gotten it there. One minute she’s trying on some necklace, and the next it’s wrapped around her wrist like prison chains. She was part of…

The Supreme Court Has Gone Rogue And Taken Over The Country – Now What?

Posted on May 6, 2016May 26, 2025 by Paul

I’ve wanted to start several TV shows or movies over the years. I always thought I had some good ideas when it came to them. Maybe that’s because I’ve been on TV a lot myself. Mostly the news. But I did spend 10 hours that one time filming a segment for a national network. And…

Welcome to Open Doors and Opportunity!

My name is Paul and I’m the owner of this blog.

The picture of me above was taken by a very famous photographer who has also photographed Presidents of the United States, numerous celebrity actors and various sports professionals, as well as other business professionals like myself.

I was supposed to have a feature article written about what a great marketing professional I was in GQ Magazine, or Fortune Magazine, or Forbes, or Playboy … one of those … but then, things went sideways.

Really sideways.

The article was never written, the photo was never used anywhere, I was fired from the job that made that photo possible, I lost my home and ended up traveling all over in my pick-up truck (known as Unit #4)  and staying in various Wal-Mart parking lots (what I like to call the Wal-Mart Condo Association) for 2 years.

In the meantime, I’ve done everything. I’ve been a partner in the largest nightclub in SWFL, written songs with Grammy Winners in the Songwriter Hall of Fame, started as a public relations grunt and worked my way to Chief Marketing Officer of a restaurant group, and much, much, much more and many things.

It’s been a crazy life – with highs and lows not experienced by anyone who ever “played it safe” — but I was born to live, and so, that’s what’s I’ve done. These are just some of those (all true 100%) stories.
