I was watching women's tennis yesterday and Serena lost in the semi-final. She was on her way to becoming a 4 time champ this season and had she won the US Open, she would have made history. Instead, she was beaten by an older woman.
Within 20 minutes of being beat she was in front of the microphones, talking about her match and what happened. This shot, that shot.
That can't be easy to do.

What if you had to, at the end of the day, give a press conference on your day. What would you say?
Do you ever think about what you're doing when you're doing it?
I try and "live in the moment" but the harder I try the more the moment seems to escape my memory.
When I'm trying so hard it seems like I miss the moment completely. So I don't try and live in the moment as much as I used to.
People always say you should - and I'm not knocking it, but it doesn't really work for me.

I imagine a girl getting married, and once she's married she sits down in front of the press and they ask all kinds of questions about her big day,
"What were your thoughts when you were coming down the isle?"
"Was there a time where you got nervous? Maybe thought 'is this real'?"
"When you finally said 'I do', was there a sense of relief or excitement?"
That would be an odd experience.

But maybe thinking that you're going to have a press conference at the end of the day isn't a bad way of thinking about things.
Would you be more productive? Try and get more done?
Would you watch what you said, what you did?
Would you still act foolish? Be a child? Turn into a grown up?
Would you drink as much? Drink more? Eat less?
At the end of every day, how would you want your press conference to be? What questions would you want to be asked?
"Why did you curse at that driver?"
"What happened between you and xxxx?"
"Are sweet gherkin pickles really as good as you say they are and is that why you ate as many of them as you did?" (the answer is yes, and yes)

People are all the time trying to change their behavior.
People are all the time trying to lose weight. Exercise. Eat healthier.
The reason we have a hard time changing is because we are only asking questions and answering to ourselves.
If you want to change your life, you need to take questions and give answers to the press at the end of the day.
Start your day with real hypothetical questions from the press that you just don't want to answer at the end of the day.
Having this mindset will help you remember what it is you're trying to accomplish. What your goal for the day really is.
After all, you don't want to have to answer the question,
"Your goal today was to do 15 sit ups and 20 push ups and both times you only did half? How do you account for that and what are you going to do to make it up?"
