I'm not a 'stuff' guy. I could pretty much care less if anyone has the biggest, best, whatever whatever they have. All good. You want to spend your money on that and for a moment it makes you happy? Cool.
I like to buy experiences. Things I can remember.
Life is so, so short. We think we live forever while at the same time the people we thought would live forever are all around us - dropping like flies.
The shock we have when someone passes away. Astounds me.
So if I have a lot of stuff, that's great - but if I have fun and enjoy my life, that's even better.
I try and first surround myself with people I like to be around. Who make me laugh. Who aren't serious at all (or rarely).
I don't like dour. Sour. I'm out.
Who wants to be in?
If you spend all your time complaining but not offering lessons or solutions, I kind of don't want to be around. Those are your problems. And people spend a lot of time projecting their problems onto you.
Don't let them.
When the last 'she' took everything including the TV, and told me to never come back, I didn't buy a TV for 5 years. And the only reason I did buy a TV when I did was so I could hook my laptop up to it and use it as a huge monitor.
Stuff. If it doesn't provide experiences or make you money, it's probably not worth a whole lot.
Kids used to go out and fish - that's money. The fishing pole was an investment in both an experience and something practical.
Now they catch pretend fish on a game console. All that is is stuff. A waste of time and a waste of money.
For everything you buy there is a coming and a going.
Nothings more fun than reeling in a really nice sized fish. Even a small fish that really puts up a fight. That's an experience. Something you can remember forever.
Are you hungry? Like fish? Want to eat? Want to sell what you've caught?
There's a reason they say give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.
I'm not going to remember what some actor portraying someone else's life on TV or a movie did, but I will remember 'that one time I'.
Having experiences, shared experiences, and sharing experiences is taking pocket lint and making pocket change. That's what this entire site is about.
Money comes and goes. You can lose your house, your cars, your possessions, your friends, and everything else.
You will always have your memories.
Make them good. You might die tomorrow.
Time is not on your side. Memories you can take with you.
When you're gone, the only thing anyone else is going to care about is who gets your stuff. And then they'll sue each other and fight over it like whatever you left behind really matters.
And then they'll die too. And someone else will fight over your left over stuff left over to people who left over their stuff mixed with yours and ...
That's life.
Stuff, if you've got it, is great. Buy experiences though. You'll be less comfortable, but a lot happier.
