I had 15,000 fans of my radio talk show on Facebook. I was popular. Everyone knew me. I was on TV all the time. The news mostly. I ran the largest entertainment venue in southwest Florida. Hosted the largest and most out of control parties anyone could ever imagine this side of Mardi Gras. Thousands of people attended. I was surrounded by girls. I was on almost any stage I wanted to be on. I was backstage at whatever event I wanted to go to. Everyone wanted something from me. I had turned the venue into the most powerful online marketing machine around. Was crushing it.
Then I was fired.
The 15,000 fans disappeared. The popularity faded. No one knew me. I never made it on TV. The girls all left. No one wanted anything from me. I no longer ran a powerful marketing company pretending to be an entertainment venue. I wasn't crushing it - I was crushed.
A closed door.

I liked having fans. I liked having my own talk show on the radio. I liked be on TV for all the right reasons. It was nice when talking to a business to be able to say, "I have more fans for my radio show than the radio station and all their other DJ's combined".
My ratings after only 6 months on air came back #7 in the market. Huge ratings for a new show. The president of Homestead-Miami Speedway called the show to be interviewed. Producers in Hollywood called so that their hosts could be interviewed. Uncle Si was calling in too (he called in one hour late and the hist of the show after mine didn't know he was calling or who he was - they interviewed him anyhow for what I would think would make some great radio).
Fame is fleeting. Once you get fired, you go from hero to zero pretty fast. I was surprised how fast it happened. 2.4 seconds.
What do you do when you lose all your friends? Your fans? No one wants anything from you?
You take a deep breath and be grateful. You had the opportunity. You made a mark.
Sure everyone left me. Sure it stung. Sure I liked being surrounded by girls and they left too. Sure they won't return until I do something that makes them think they want something from me again. But they will.
JAY-Z says, "f the fame keep cheating on me, what I do I take her back" - and I totally get it.
